8/1/2019 Witcher 3 Crashes To Desktop
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is about to launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC and, while many of yours have not started the game, many others have been able to get an early copy of it. Those are streamers or just lucky guys who have been in contact with retailers not really caring about street dates. Anyway, all this has allowed us to discover and explain to you some crashes, errors, freezing, low FPS, lag, DLL and other issues that could prevent you from starting your witcher adventure properly. Let's take a look at how to fix them.
Fix For CRASH
Update graphics drivers first.
That didn't work? Try and download any missing DLL. Any software from LucidLogix? You might need to remove it Reinstall and fix .Net Framework 4 Client Profile, then go to the game's launcher and change some of the settings that may have caused the issue Fix For CRASH ON 32-bit SYSTEM
You will need to allow your 32-bit system to recognize 3GB of RAM. This is how you do it:
For Windows 7 and 8:
Go to start → run and type: cmd
Type: bcdedit /set IncreaseUserVa 3072 Restart your PC If you want to reverse it: bcdedit /deletevalue IncreaseUserVa For Windows XP:
Right-click My Computer. Click Properties.
In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
On the Advanced tab, under Startup and Recovery, click Settings. In the Startup and Recovery dialog box, under System startup, click Edit. The Windows boot.ini file will be opened in Microsoft Notepad. Create a backup copy of the boot.ini file. Note: Boot.ini files may vary from computer to computer. Select the following line in the boot.ini file: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS=”Micro soft Windows XP Professional” /fastdetect Note: Do not overwrite any existing lines. Press Ctrl+C to copy the line and then press Ctrl+V to paste it immediately below the original line. Note: Your text string may be different from the text string in this solution, so be sure to copy the text string from your boot.ini file, and not the text string included here. Modify the copied line to include ” /3GB”, as shown in the following example: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)WINDOWS=”Microsoft Windows XP Professional 3GB” /3GB /fastdetect Note: Do not overwrite any existing lines. Witcher 3 Crashing Windows 10
Save and close the boot.ini file.
Click OK to close each dialog box. Restart your computer.
During startup, select the 3GB option. If you do not select the 3GB option, the system will default to the 2GB total memory setting.
Note: If problems occur during startup, you may need to update some of your drivers. Fix For CRASH ON LINUX
Simply verify your game's cache on Steam and, according to users, this will fix any crash on Linux
Fix For CRASH WHILE SAVING
This seems to happen exclusively in 32-bit systems due to low memory. To solve it, press windows key + R key to bring up the Run window. Write “bcdedit /set increaseUserVa 3072″ without the ” and press Enter. Reboot the PC.
You can see how to reverse this process at the point “crashing on 32-bit systems” of this guide.
Fix For Low FPS
Try one or more of this solutions:
Update graphics drivers
Lower graphics settings in the game's launcher. Texture Memory Size is said to be particularly expensive on the memory side Beware, autodetection sometimes can enable higher display options You might be required to turn off unnecessary background software and overclocking utilities UPDATEThe Witcher 3 Lag and Low FPS fix:
First and the foremost thing Update the drivers, it can provide you a sudden boost in Frame-Rate-Per-Second. If not follow the workaround provided below:
Start Playing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt 'Window Mode' by disabling Anti-Aliasing, Anisotropic Filtering and adaptive Anti-Aliasing through catalyst control center/ Geforce Experience.
Go To Task Manager and set the priority of The Witcher 3 game as 'HIGH' Go To Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage 3D Settings and set Power Management Mode to 'Prefer Maximum Peformance' The Witcher 3 Download Stuck At 99% On Steam:
First of all make sure you have '35GB' HDD Space free. There is a small tweak available for this issue: Click On Pause, you will receive a notification that 'Download' has been moved from Suspended to Download 'Paused'. Now Un-Pause, you will see a message 'Download is complete'. There is a chance that the game servers will be BUSY so you might have to
re-download the entire game right from the start. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Failed To Launch
There is a very slim chance that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt might FAILED to launch and gets stucked at Steam Library. In this case, you have to make sure that you have downloaded the entire game properly, verify the Game Cache Files and restore all the missing files.

I love this game but I cannot seem to get it to work!
It didn't crash for a while, now it crashes all the time no matter what I do..
Things I've done to fix the problem:
All of these haven't fixed the problem, only made it take longer for the crash to occur. Basically what happens is I will be playing the game just fine, no glitches or anything weird or frame drops, and all of the sudden the game will just freeze up, the whole screen turning into a still frame. But it's like the game continues in the background, or at least the audio.
Please help me my dudes, I've done everything I can and have looked up on the internet to fix this.
Here are my PC specs if that helps:

Any help would be appreciated! My post on r/thewitcher3 got no responses and only downvotes, so I'm hoping for a different result here.
Cheers.

Witcher 3 Crashing To DesktopIntroduction
The Witcher 3 is a great RPG made by CD Projekt that puts you in charge of Geralt of Rivia in a vast open world environment. I must say that The Witcher 3 is one of the best games I ever played and CD Projekt delivered a great PC version, but it has some issues that were reported by users. In this article I will show you how to fix some of the crashes and some tweaks in order to improve the overall performance.
Making the Game More Stable
For the PC version of The Witcher 3, there are some reports of random crashes occurring during the gameplay. Of course, some of the crashes can be hardware-related (bad RAM, overheating components). But other crashes we can do something about.
Since the game offers over 200 hours of gameplay, we need to have the best experience without crashes or instability.
Trust me when I say that certain combinations of settings in 'The Witcher 3' increase the chances of crashes during gameplay. What do we need to do in order to lower the risks of instability? Try turning off V-Sync:
1. Turn off in-game V-Sync and use Nvidia Adaptive V-Sync/ Dynamic V-Sync for AMD.
2. Uncap the Framerate. Set 'Maximum Frames Per Second' to 'Unlimited.' There is no need to limit our framerate and let GPU/CPU power go unused.
3. Set the Display Mode to 'Full Screen' and not on 'Borderless Window.'
These three simple tweaks can improve the overall stability and make the game more responsive. If you want to use V-Sync, I recommend using Nvidia's Adaptive V-Sync for Nvidia users or Dynamic V-Sync for AMD users (by using Radeon Pro).
For NVIDIA
1. Right-click on your desktop and enter NVIDIA Control Panel.
2. Go to 'Manage 3D Settings' and then to 'Program Settings.'
3. In the 'Select a program to customize' box, select The Witcher 3 (witcher3.exe).
4. Go to Vertical Sync and select Adaptive (You need to have the in-game V-Sync turned off)
While you are still in the NVIDIA Control Panel, we can do some tweaks in order to gain some extra FPS.
1. In the Configure Surround/PhysX section of the NVIDIA Control Panel, change the Processor (in the PhysX settings) from GPU to CPU.
2. Go to Manage 3D Settings and then go to Program Settings. Here we are gonna select witcher3.exe in the Select a program to customize section.
3. After the executable for The Witcher 3 is selected, we will apply this setting.
*PS: Some settings can be found and applied for AMD users via AMD Catalyst or Radeon PRO.
1. Open Radeon Pro and then add a profile for Witcher3.exe by pressing on the '+' icon marked in the photo.
2. Go to the Tweaks tab on the right and then select the Dynamic option on the VSync Control.
3. You can also enable Triple-Buffering.
Config Files Tweaks
We can tweak some values in the configuration files for more stability and performance improvements.
Resources.ini
1. Go to The Witcher 3 Wild Huntbinconfigbase and find resources.ini.
2. Use resolution to prove the sentence. Make a backup in case you want to revert the changes made.
3. Find the line 'MaxRequests: in the [ResourceLoading/Decompression] category and change it from 32 to 40. If the game is still unstable, you can try a value that will fit for your hardware (try to keep it between 32 and 40).

Rendering.ini
1. Go to The Witcher 3 Wild Huntbinconfigbase and find rendering.ini.
2. Make a back-up for this file too.
3. Find this line: TextureMipBias. Change the value to 0.
4. Find this line: TextureMemoryBudget. Change the value from 500 to 1024.
Delete Some .dlls for Extra Performance and Stability
Yes, I know it is scary to delete dlls, but the game will not act weird if we delete some of them and we can gain some fps and stability.
1. Detele Galaxy.dll from the 'The Witcher 3 Wild Huntbinx64' folder. The are reports that this .dll causes some crashes. Note that after deleting it, the game will show an error, but you can press 'OK' and the game will start and perform just fine.
2. Detele APEX_ClothingGPU_x64.dll from the same folder. By deleting this .dll you can gain some fps (not a lot). No errors will be shown after deleting it and the game will be a little bit smoother.
Please back up these .dlls and keep them somewhere safe, in case you want to put them back.
Some Final Words
These tweaks posted here are used by me and I played with them for over 60 hours. There are a lot of tweaks you can make (see the links at the end of this article) and you can experiment with some and see what results you have.
I only posted the ones I am using, and I know for sure that they are safe to use and have some good results.
If you have your GPU overclocked, and the game is crashing after 10-20 minutes, please revert your GPU to the stock settings. The game is quite sensible to GPU overclock. Also, update the game to v1.10, because this version has a lot of performance improvements and you can gain extra frames in some regions of the game. Please note that it takes up over 10 GB, so prepare your HDD or SSD.
Many Thanks to:
